Honoring Our Fallen: A Virtual Tour of Washington D.C.'s War Memorials

In observance of Veteran's Day, Discover Live would like to take you on a live, virtual tour of the memorials in Washington D.C. honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial solemnly marks the over 58,000 Americans who lost their lives in the conflict. Visitors steadily stream by the long black granite wall engraved with names chronicling the tragic toll of the war. It's a sobering reminder of the lives lost and the service given.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial features steel statues of troops on patrol, ponchos and canteens at the ready. The nervous energy and strain of combat is evident on each unique face. Nearby, a reflective wall depicts soldiers marching forward, images seeming to move beside visitors. A vivid tribute to the sacrifices of the "forgotten war."

The commanding Lincoln Memorial overlooks the Reflecting Pool, with the Washington Monument in the distance. Inside, Lincoln's words ring out along with the names of the states he fought to unite. A reminder of the struggle to preserve the nation we know today.

On this day, we reflect on how these memorials on the National Mall pay tribute to our veterans' courage and call on us to continue working towards lasting peace. They serve as powerful reminders of duty, valor and sacrifice.
